Hi there! I’m Sydnie, and My Dear Dwelling is my collection of tips and tricks for a happy, healthy, beautiful life according to little ol’ me.
I grew up in a small town in Utah Valley where rolling green hills, and pastures of ponies were very much a reality; but you were only 15 minutes from the nearest shopping mall! Pretty picturesque, right? After high school, I met my husband at our local Christian church and it wasn’t long before we knew we were meant to be together forever. David and I were married in October of 2016 and currently live in Provo while I get my degree in Architecture. We can’t wait for a home of our own, especially so we can have a dog! In my spare time I love watching children’s shows and embroidering (good combination), all things under the umbrella of “crafting”, and throwing pottery when I can get my hands on a wheel from time to time.
My first three years of college were a mixture of general art, graphic design, sculpture, pottery, and interior design classes as I tried to figure out what I wanted to do. After getting my Associates Degree, I took time off to focus on what my path and purpose ought to be. It didn’t take long for it to be evident that I needed to become an Architect in Residential Design.
I have always loved homes. Growing up, my mom would take me with her to the annual Parade of Homes and it felt like Christmas to me every year. In fact, I had always thought everyone celebrated it like a holiday stay-cation the way we did! I remember rummaging through Mom’s Better Homes and Gardens magazines and taking clippings from the pages to glue into my scrapbooks; and taking waaay too many paint swatches from the home improvement stores when my parents would go get supplies. Over the last couple of years I have gotten to know some really amazing people involved in building residential dwellings, and wanted to share their successes with you, analyzing what it is that makes these designs so successful, and how to bring it into your own home. I hope you enjoy reading along with me as I grow in learning how to create a beautiful life one day at a time!
